What is Swim to School Week?
Swim to School Week is a nationwide initiative that aims to promote water safety in schools and early learning centres. It is held during the first week of December to align with the start of the high-risk summer season.
Created by Kingswim in partnership with the Y, Swim to School Week is in its inaugural year and forms part of a wider initiative to ensure all Australian families learn more about water safety and head into a safer summer.

Ways your school or preschool can get involved
- Host a Swim to School Day: On any day from 1-5 December 2025, encourage your students to ‘Swim to School’ by dressing in red or yellow or accessorising with fun beach items like goggles, snorkels, caps, floaties or life jackets.
- Raise funds: Make a gold coin donation to your school and / or Y Open Doors, which provides access to swimming lessons to disadvantaged young people and groups in the local community.
- Share water safety resources: Help your students and their families stay safer this summer by sharing key water safety information and practical activities that reinforce safe behaviours around water.
