Victorian Water Safety Certificate Readiness

For grades 5 to 6

The Victorian Water Safety Certificate, introduced by the Victorian government, outlines the water safety knowledge, skills and swimming abilities children should achieve by the end of primary school.

Our readiness program helps students work towards achieving the certificate by:

  • Developing the skills required to meet National Swimming and Water Safety Benchmarks
  • Building on students' existing skills and confidence
  • Preparing students for safe and responsible aquatic activity

Water safety program

For preps and grade 1s

Our water safety program teaches basic water safety knowledge in a fun and interactive way. Through various activities, children learn how to stay safer in and around water while growing their confidence. It's a great way to make water safety engaging and memorable for little ones!

Class sizes: Suitable for all class sizes, big or small.

Duration: The program runs for 60 minutes but can be lengthened or shortened if required.

Flexible delivery options: Our team can deliver the program as an incursion, or your educators can run it themselves.

Dryland Aquatic Education Program

For grades 4 to 6

Our Dryland Aquatic Education Program complements in-pool lessons by helping students build a strong foundation in water safety knowledge before or alongside their practical swimming experience.

Delivered in a classroom setting, this program supports students to:

  • Understand key water safety principles and real-world aquatic risks
  • Learn about different types of rescue techniques, including non-contact and reach rescues
  • Explore how to identify safe and unsafe environments, both at the pool and in open water
  • Develop decision-making skills for responding to emergencies
  • Engage in discussion-based learning and scenario-based activities to reinforce understanding

This theory-based program is a great way to prepare students for safe and responsible aquatic activity and can be delivered on its own or as part of a blended swim and safety education package.

Sessions are flexible in length and can be adapted to suit your school’s timetable and curriculum goals.

Tailored programs for secondary schools

We also offer customised aquatic programs for secondary schools. These can include water safety, survival techniques, squad training or swimming fitness and endurance training tailored to the age group and school goals. To discuss how we can build a program for your students, enquire today.
