We care about making sure all of our swimmers feel comfortable and safe during swimming lessons. We also want every child to become the best little swimmer they can be!
To support your child during swimming lessons, our swim teachers may use hands-on corrections. This is where they use their hands to help your child into the correct swimming position and keep them safe.
What are hands-on corrections?
Hands-on corrections refer to a swim teacher using their hands to guide your child into a better position, make sure they’re performing strokes correctly and to help keep them safe in the water.
For example, a swim teacher may use their hands to:
- Help your child turn their head during freestyle so that they learn to breathe correctly
- Show your child how to kick more effectively
- Hold your child’s waist to support them as they lift their feet off the pool floor
- Adjust your child’s arms into a better position
- Hands-on corrections are an essential part of our teaching approach. It’s all about keeping your child safe, helping them develop their swimming technique and ensuring they have a positive experience in the water.
We’ll always respect your child’s feelings and privacy, so if they ever feel uncomfortable, just let the swim teacher know.
Why are hands-on corrections important?
Hands-on corrections provide immediate feedback, allowing our teachers to guide your child in real-time. This is especially crucial for refining specific skills such as head position, kicks and arm technique.
Enhanced learning
Physical guidance reinforces correct movement patterns, making it easier for your child to grasp and remember correct swimming techniques. This accelerates their learning and helps build muscle memory for improved performance.
Safety first
Safety is our top priority. Hands-on corrections enable our teachers to quickly address and correct any unsafe practices, ensuring a secure and risk-free learning environment.

Kingswim’s approach to hands-on corrections
Our swim teachers are trained professionals who always prioritise respect and privacy. All hands-on corrections are conducted with professionalism and consideration for your child’s comfort. We only use physical contact to keep your child safe and to provide the necessary support or corrections for a specific drill or activity.
Consent
We always seek consent from children before providing hands-on corrections. If you or your child feel uncomfortable with this approach, please do not hesitate to speak with a Kingswim supervisor so that we can explore alternative methods.
We’re here to help your child succeed!
At Kingswim, we’re committed to ensuring your child’s success in their swimming education.
If you have questions or concerns about our teaching methods, particularly around hands-on corrections, please feel free to contact us. We would be happy to discuss this further with you.
